ASAP Rocky will be going to trial in Sweden after officials in the country formally charged the rapper with assault. He had been kept in jail there for weeks, despite not being officially charged until today.

Rocky was arrested while in Sweden for a show, and Sweden has faced significant backlash. Video showed a man following the rapper and his entourage through the streets, with many witnesses confirming he was harassing Rocky. A fight ensued, and officials there now seem bent on making an example of him.

Other cases show he’s being unfairly treated, with many crying racism. Fellow rapper G-Eazy spoke on the issue, coming forward to say that he himself was once arrested in Sweden but didn’t face anything like what Rocky is facing.

He wrote online, “Facts. This is the sad truth … The difference between me and Rocky’s treatment and process in Sweden brings to mind two concepts that disgustingly go hand in hand: white privilege and systematic racism.” He then continued, “Let’s call it what it is. He should not be behind bars right now. My heart goes out to my brother @asaprocky and his team. We’re riding for y’all. #JusticeForRocky #FreeRocky.”

Tons of celebs have given their support while also showing disgust at the way Sweden is handling the case. Jada Pinkett chimed in, writing

Even Donald Trump made an (albeit self-serving) attempt to support the rapper, going as far as calling the Prime Minister of Sweden to vouch for the rapper. He wasn’t successful, though –

The Prime Minister apparently told Trump that ASAP Rocky won’t be getting any “special treatment.” No special treatment indeed, Sweden.

Many have canceled shows there to show support for him, as well as to avoid a similar fate, including Tyga, who canceled his show and made it clear why.
