ASAP Rocky Released From Jail in Sweden

ASAP Rocky is headed home after weeks of being locked up in a Swedish jail, with the judge allowing his release at the conclusion of his trial.

The final decision in his case won’t come until August 14th, but that is not likely to effect the rapper other than preventing him from returning to Sweden, who will be back on American soil.

ASAP Rocky, 30, real name Rakim Mayers, was arrested in the country after getting in a fight with a local man who was following and harassing them. Politicians and celebs alike reached out to support Rocky, though Swedish authorities refused any interference with or influence on its judicial system. He subsequently stayed in jail until his trial, which was swift.

Even Donald Trump wasn’t able to help free Rocky with his tweets and empty threats against Sweden. Naturally, he tweeted a celebratory tweet as though he had anything to do with it. “A$AP Rocky released from prison and on his way home to the United States from Sweden. It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!”

During the trial, prosecutors argued that Rocky had lots of chances to leave the scene and were not acting in self-defense. His lawyer argued, however, that the assault was not premeditated, and thus he should be let free.

The judge allowed ASAP Rocky to go free while the ruling is made. Experts say such a decision likely points to only time served or an outright acquittal.

He posted a thank you to those who have supported him, writing, “THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS AND ANYONE ACROSS THE GLOBE WHO SUPPORTED ME DURING THESE LAST FEW WEEKS I CANT BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW GRATEFUL I AM FOR ALL OF YOU THIS HAS BEEN A VERY DIFFICULT AND HUMBLING EXPERIENCE I WANT TO THANK THE COURT FOR ALLOWING ME BLADI AND THOTO TO RETURN TO OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE LOVE AND SUPPORT.”
