Frank Ocean Claps Back at Estranged Father’s $14.5 Million Lawsuit

For Frank, It’s not just money.

Frank Ocean has responded to his estranged father’s lawsuit claiming the singer slandered him in online, and he stands by his statements. Frank wrote about how his father made an offensive slur about a waiter when he was a child, and it certainly left a mark on him. “I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a faggot as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn’t be served because she was dirty. That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn’t shock me if it wasn’t,” Ocean wrote, which is still posted on his website.

Earlier this year, Calvin Cooksey, Ocean’s father, sued him claiming that the post slandered him and would prevent him from securing “future financial opportunities in the film and music industries.” He claims the incident never happened, but Frank says otherwise, arguing in court docs that it certainly did, and since it is true and his own opinion on the incident, it does not count as libel. His dad makes it out as though Ocean has some evil plan to destroy him, as though he has nothing better to do.
