It’s been 14 years since Missy Elliott has dropped a new project, but now she’s back with the out-of-this-world new project titled “Iconology.”

She surprised fans with the announcement on social media.

She’s been busy lately, including the opening of a Missy Elliott Museum. Tickets to the museum sold out online in just 60 seconds.

While she’s sprinkled some of her musical magic around here and there, she avoided dropping a full album. She dropped “Tempo” with Lizzo this year, and she also worked on tracks with Ariana Grande, Timbaland, Ciara, and Kelly Rowland in 2018.

In 2017, she dropped her own single, ” I’m Better.” While fans hoped this signaled a new album on the way, but nothing every came. Her last studio album was The Cookbook, which came out back in 2005.

Missy Elliott will be honored on August 26th with the MTV Video Vanguard Award. She was already honored by being entered into the Songwriters Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Along with the album, Missy also dropped a visual for the track “Throw it Back.”
