Prodigy from Mobb Deep Passes Away

Hip hop has lost a legend.

One of the most well-known rappers in hip hop has passed away. Prodigy, from the rap group Mobb Deep, passed away after what appear to be complications from his ongoing battle with Sickle Cell disease.

Prodigy was taken away on a stretcher following a show over the weekend from an afterparty at 1OAK. He died Tuesday, though an official cause of death has yet to be released.

Prodigy was a member of the group Mobb Deep, which rose to fame in the 90s as one of the leading rap groups of all time. They became legends and icons, influencing countless other rappers until today. They had notorious rap beefs over the years with some of hip hop’s biggest stars, including Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg. They epitomized New York style and the rap culture.

Immediately up new of his passing, celebs started voicing their sadness and recounting the time they spent with him. Ice Cube said that “He just seemed like a cool dude who represented to me, hip-hop coming from the street level after New York had took it to its heights.”
