Reactions to Kodak Black Getting Years in the Clink

Kodak Black was just handed 46 months in federal prison for weapons charges, where he is already sitting tight, and now he’s facing two additional 30-year sentences for newly filed weapons charges.

The rapper was facing a longer sentence, so his sentence this week seemed reasonable given it’s less than the hefty 10 years he was facing. However, it is still quite a long time, especially with his career. The judge handed down the sentence that seemed to fall within what both sides were arguing for, with Kodak’s lawyers looking for 37-44 months and the prosecutors asking for 46-57 months.

In court, Kodak referred to the crime as a “mishap,” saying, “I’m sorry for the actions that led me for where I’m standing. I do take full responsibility for my mishap.”

He pleaded guilty in August to falsifying information on federal forms when he purchased weapons.

“Young people do stupid things,” U.S. District Court Judge Federico Moreno told Black. “But the problem is that you’ve been doing stupid things since you were 15.”

Kodak was involved in a fight in prison last month, and he allegedly grabbed a guard’s testicles so aggressively, he had to have surgery. He’s likely to face additional charges from this incident as well.

Now, prosecutors have filed new weapons charges against him stemming from an incident in Miami, each of which could land him an additional 30-year sentence. So for now, he’s going to be staying right where he’s at.
